Ohio has to come before Iowa, and I don't know what to think about OK. I would think MN and CA would be ahead of OK. Michigan has produced a lot of studs lately too, but maybe not deep enough to crack top 10.
Like advocate said, interesting.

Based on what criteria? Clearly they're not judging solely on the strength of high school wrestling. Seems like they're including college programs and other extras that add to the wrestling "culture", i.e wrestling Hall-of-Fame in Stillwater, OK and cadet/junior nationals in Fargo, ND. Maybe that justifies the OK and ND mentions.

Agreed
Agreed, I agree to disagree.
What exactly does "Top Wrestling States" mean? Youth tournament placings/champs? HS tournament placings/champs? College success? Illinois, based upon recent results in HS (cadet/junior divisions) has to be a TOP 3 state for wrestling----period. |

At the end of the day, this ranking means absolutely nothing. It's just fodder for conversation.
To me, the only 2 criteria that count would be how many top wrestlers in a given state get recruited to major colleges and the amount of top wrestlers that are competing internationally. Illinois' recruiting class from 2011-12 may be the best of all time when you consider that athletes are going to Stanford, Cornell, Illinois, Minnesota, Northwestern, Iowa, Oklahoma, OK State, Nebraska, etc. Illinois is also producing a lot of competitors that are competing internationally on a regular basis. However you slice it, they are getting paid (through educational opportunities or stipend) to wrestle. |

How could they leave Hawaii, Louisiana and and Alaska off the list?
