Cadet National Greco Duals

I'm a little disappointed in the lack of coverage by USA Wrestling. The schoolboy duals had 8 live feeds going with direct links from trackwrestling to the mats/matches you wanted to watch. I thought for sure because of the coverage given to the younger age level that the Cadets /Juniors would receive the same, if not more and I was looking forward to watching. On theMat.tv the only USA Wrestling coverage of the Cadets seem to be the FS/GR Finals other than feeds that are set up/following certain states. At this time only Wisconsin has a Greco feed.

Trackwrestling doesn't even have the live match dashboard running that we've been spoiled with over the last year.

Dual scores on trackwrestling are not even being updated at this time (I'm hoping that this is just a technical issue and will change soon).

It would be greatly appreciated by many if a parent in attendance of the event could stream the matches online like Mr. Garelli and Mr. Pawelski did for us last year at the Junior duals. Any takers?

I can understand the sentiment, but everyone needs to realize the streaming of events of this size extremely difficult. There just isn't the manpower to provide every single event to have the depth of coverage we would like.

We weren't planning streams from the Schoolboy Duals, but the ISWA stepped up, sold some sponsorships to cover the cost of the streaming systems rented from WrestlingVideoSolutions. WVS has been working with USAW for the past three years to develop and enhance streaming of USAW events. The system is related to Trackwrestling, but if you don't have the "live dashboard" system up and running for an event, then you won't have the same type of stream for the Cadet Duals.

Indiana had the equipment shipped from Western Iowa and set up the event and ran it from the tech side. Those systems could not have been affordably shipped to Daytona Beach on short notice AND there isn't anyone in Florida that is familiar with the system being used. It's still new and there's only a handful of individuals in this country who can set it up, run it and troubleshoot it.

In a perfect world, we'd stream everything we can, but cost, man power, labor, lodging and equipment rental (if someone's going to pay a ton of money to make these systems, they have to get something back to offset the cost).

There are two people at USAW with the expertise to handle this stream. One of them has been on the road non-stop and the other (me), has been in the hospital with my wife as we expect our first child.

The location of the Cadet Duals also makes shipping, travel and turnaround time an issue. The amount cost it takes to stream these events isn't just something we can afford to do on a week-in, week-out basis unless someone affiliated with the state or the event steps up and tries to sell advertising to offset the costs.

We're going to try to be VERY ambitious with Fargo this year, but right now, the events have been relegated to the midwest because that's where the equipment resides.

The last three years, we've enlisted Shane Sparks from BadgerStateWrestling to do the finals for USAW on our streaming channel. Shane Sparks does the Wisconsin duals (and they're usually on the championship side for a while), but we've been lucky to have several states in the past (Like Illinois) stream their events. Only Arizona and Wisconsin have shown they planned on doing it and Arizona will likely only be freestyle.

Trackwrestling's live dashboard is contingent on using the Track scoreclocks or mini-scoreboards. USAW uses these at major events, but not all states are as equipped. States like Wisconsin can pop up a stream at their events with little issue, because they have the equipment. Illinois has a few of the track systems as well. We have a handful in Colorado, but in these times, budgets are also crucial.

If the tournament site isn't using Track live scoring, then you won't have a dashboard. Sometimes the site's internet connection is also an issue (like we experienced in Texas for the Greco/Women's open).

We (USAW) are providing the finals for free with our partner Shane Sparks at BadgerStateWrestling. Some events, we can only provide so much, other events, we have the manpower and people who have stepped up to the plate to stream these events.

In a perfect world, money and transportation and shipping wouldn't be an issue. But that's not the world we live in. I'm not sure what the plan is for Junior Duals, but USAW can only promise the finals live.

The coverage was like such for the Schoolboy Duals because Indiana was close enough to ship the equipment, we had manpower to manage the system (it's pretty expansive and techie) and someone who sold ads to offset the costs it takes to do this. I'm not pointing the finger at Florida, but not all events are uniform in what it takes to stream them.

I'm always open for questions and comments, but sometimes we have the ability to go big with a live stream for an event - sometimes we don't.

Mr. Garelli's help the last two years was great. I was hoping IL would send some people, because they're knowledgeable and they're looking for another sweep.

It's a lot more involved and logistically difficult than people might believe. Next year, if anyone from IL would want to sponsor the event to cover costs, get in touch with Adam Fenn at wrestlingvideosolutions.com.

I'm always available - jbryant@usawrestling.org

Again, it's the best we can offer for this event as of this moment.

Let's also look at the progression of something like the Cadet/Junior Nationals in Fargo.

2009: Streamed only finals, and ones that could be streamed when LiveSportsVideo didn't have technical screw ups.
2010: Streamed Mat 1 the entire event for the first time. Posted all finals matches from all styles.
2011: Streamed anywhere from 4-8 mats, including all medal matches for the first time. Posted all finals matches and all medal matches on archive. Featured live audio from The Open Mat the entire event as a "traffic cop". USAW posted over 1,000 videos from the 7 day event.
2012: TBA, but there are some big things on the horizon.

If anyone out there wants to sponsor Fargo, again, contact Adam Fenn at wrestlingvideosolutions.com

We started out using a Tricaster with different angles on ONE stream. Then we went to another system and have been expanding upon that.

Our goal: Stream every match in Fargo. But it's a costly one. Considering we get small revenue (extremely small) from GoogleAds and you're talking about a week long of manpower, food, lodging and rental, shipping, transportation, etc.

We (USAW) can stream up to four mats with the systems we own. WVS has cutting edge stuff, but there are a lot of up-front costs to cover. At a typical USAW event where I attend, there's no additional cost, because my travel is already taken care of and I have smaller, more mobile systems to pop up. This is why we did four of the 7 mats in Madison for FILA Junior Freestyle and all 4 mats for Greco.

Sorry for the rambling, but I feel its important for everyone to know the progress that's been made and the plans we have, but also understand everything has limitations.

What you are doing, Jason, is much appreciated. Keep up the great work!

JB, Congrats on the baby.

Thanks for the insight. I have noticed the progress with the event coverages which is what led to my disappointment this morning.
Please don't take my post for complaining. I was just expressing my disappointment after being spoiled by recent event coverage.

Your efforts have been appreciated by me and many others. Thank you.

Considering your reputation for posting on this board, I didn't take your comments as a shot or raging complaint, and I wasn't going to pop off with an angry response at all. It did give me the opportunity to fully explain how things work a little better.

The broad coverage USAW and Wrestling Video Solutions has developed over the past year is honestly mind-boggling. Not patting ourselves on the back, but how WVS has been forward thinking with development and automation of live streaming.

If you consider the back-to-back-to-back nature of the Schoolboy Duals, Cadet Duals and the Junior Duals and their locations, you can see where this would be a time-consuming logistical nightmare for someone or any group of people to try to do.

WVS' system is still growing in physical infrastructure. Personally, I'd love to pitch this to state associations to raise funds to make sure all their kids matches are streamed, but you never know what people will be willing to buy or not buy in terms of advertising.

It's still building and WVS is a developing company with a KILLER streaming format and auto-archiving system.

There's a reason 995 matches were uploaded from University Nationals. There's a reason you'll see more Fargo matches than ever before.

It's all a work in progress. And if you need streaming for your HS, college or youth event, WrestlingVideoSolutions.com ...
