I'm certain the IL Coaches will determine who wrestles, but I will say, if you win 3A State, you better believe you deserve to be considered the best IL wrestler in the State at your weight. 3A is deeper, 3A kids usually have a tougher schedule, etc. Unless there is a clear case, like Richards this year, I can practically guarantee college recruiters would agree that a 3A State Champ is the default choice for best wrestler in the State at their weight. I know Reel is arguable, but if you want to wager on him over McMurtry, I'll take McMurtry. Heck, I'd take Moylan, Scneider, Residori, Brooks, Johnson too. Not to slight anyone, but they did it, in 3A, and that does mean something, like it or not.

Moylan deserves it due to the fact that he has wrestled national events in the past agianst top notch kids and is nationally ranked.Nothing against Mayes but I don't believe he's wrestled the competition.Moylan best win this year was against Brill and Mayes best win was who ?.Not sure if he beat another state placer this year besides the ones he wrestled at state. Not taking anything away from Mayes but Moylan is on a different level.

Mayes best win

As a program, Mayes tried to see the best. A small program like Mascoutah went to Lincoln where Max went 152 not mayes fault.
Then traveled to Quincy hoping to get something. He beat Agnew who
was ranked 1 and then they moved Agnew to 5 in the rankings and Mayes to 3. The two infront of him ranking wise could not touch him but live in the right demographics I guess????? 3 state champs from the south??? 2A Must just be week but the south can not be good.HA

Not saying anything is weak or the south is good what I am saying is that Moylan is on a different level that's all.And I don't think you will find to many knowledgable wrestling fans that wouldn't agree. And Mayes did beat Coggeshall 6-3 (A 3rd 145) and he had a win over Chad Whitford 152 AAA qualifier. Not seeing any wins that are as big as beating Brill or Holler.

Sorry but your facts are wrong. Many 2a schools wrestle harder scheduals. Like Montini Marmion, Crystal Lake Central Etc. It just depends on the weight. 138 2a was much harder than 3a. However 152 3a was much harder than 2a. It just depends.

Great Kids

Illinois very fortunate to have some of the best kids in the country. I am
sure they are all deserving. I am sure Max and the others are deserving. I just happend to also think Mayes is as well. I wish he was fortunate enough to wrestle for a great program. Best of luck to all the kids. I am sure they all deserve it.

Since where talking about mayes here I definitely think he should be on the all star team great shot and re-shot reaction and never stops trying to move and tries to keep scoring hope he lands D1 scholarship impressed me a lot down at state

I also think Mayes should be on 1 of the teams I just believe Moylan should be the first 145 lb wrestler to be asked and Mayes #2.Mayes is a good wrestler and smart kid with tons of upside that a college coach will be happy to have.
