My take on the lawsuit

In this case, Roth's attorney is most likely seeking a preliminary injunction aimed at staying the suspension and allowing Lucas to wrestle this season. Injunctions are sought in cases (such as this one) where there is not enough time for the matter to work itself through the legal process (By the time of trial the season would be over and the issue at hand would be moot). Thus, a judge in this case is most likely going to review the merits of the case using various considerations and either grant or deny the injunction. 99% of the time cases end at this stage of the game (especially where the injunction is denied) due to the fact that the interested party no longer has the possibility of getting what they want (even if they eventually win at trial). SO, I guess we will see very soon whether or not Roth is going to get on the mats this season.

After "strike one" I'd have my boot so far up my boy's butt his breath would smell like shoe polish. At what point does parents start parenting and stop being fans. "Three strikes" are plenty. Hopefully Lucas learns to respect the rules and Dad learns to put his foot down sooner!

Could the injunction force the school to let him compete, or only force them to let him on the team? If the latter, the coach would not have to let him compete, i.e., to use a basketball term, DNP-coaches decision? I know it's against the spirit of the injunction, but any actual match/game time is at the discretion of the coach, is it not?

Bold behavior

The most shocking part of the article to me is Lucas's stupidity to chew tobacco IN CLASS. That is pretty bold.

As shocking as it might sound this is not uncommon. I would never want to disrespect a program at my school that has treated me so well but coaches from teams other then wrestling could be caught dipping at practices. I even had a teacher that was a coach on another team i wont mention put a dip in leaving class. I also saw him throw his dip out coming into class. Players on those sports might be influenced..

His actions are speaking volumes right now whether you know him or not. My parents didn't dictate my behavior, but if I got caught doing the same my parents would side with the school.

The post i responded to said his dad should have disciplined him better. my answer was you dont know mr. roth and you or him have no idea what happened in that household. With that said no matter what kind of punisment was given luke can make his own choices. You think it would be right for someones dad to drop them off and pick them up from school and practice and lock them in the house to make sure they have no chance of lighting up a ciggerate? I think i speak for the masses when i say a parent providing for there family might not have time for that..

I agree this is what baffles me the most. I like Lucas and his parents, but to do this in the class rooms, just seems like the old I am a super star I can do what I want attitude.

You are absolutely correct parents can't dictate what their kids do and I don't know the Roth's. I don't know the Hilton's either!

I won't defend my child's poor choices with a lawsuit. What message will that send to my children?
