Don't you wonder why it took this long to start a suit? He's known what the punishment would be for awhile now, but I'm betting he is seeing what this is doing to Lucas. I bet it's killing him not being able to wrestle his senior season to get that state title...
I hope everything works out and Luke can wrestle. |

I think Mr Roth actually has a chance on this one....with the offense, which got him "banned, coming away from school. He didn't get arrested for it or brought in by the police. He obviously knew better then to do it on the grounds a 3rd time. All i'm saying is...it is like a citizens arrest...i'm not gonna turn in somebody for flying by me on the highway...btw...anyone that has been addicted to something knows it takes time to kick...until then you gotta be responsible with the habit...in my mind he didn't do anything warranting the school do take any action (this last instance).

Didn't I read somewhere that he has already committed to wrestling at NIU next season? Oh yeah, right here: http://niuhuskies.cstv.com/sports/m-...112707aaa.html. If that is the case, let him work out with Overtime or the Huskie Wrestling Club and give it a rest. His son knew the rules and PURPOSEFULLY broke them THREE times. His punishment is just and he was given more than enough opportunities to straighten himself out according to Lockport's rules (dipping while IN the classroom? Are you even serious?). The lawsuit is a complete joke and the dad should be ashamed that he even went that route.

When I first heard about this my thought was the punishment does not fit the crime. Then I found out it was a third strike situation and found it hard to defend Luke. I have now gone full circle, upon hearing it was 1 of his football coaches who turned him in, I thought wow he must of had pressure to look the other way, but still did what he thought was right. Now I find out this was not on schooll grounds and I cant help think this coach must be out to get this athlete. I hope I am wrong. In a world tht has become full of frivolous lawsuits, I find myself hoping the Roths win this one.

"The issue is, where does school authority to discipline end, and where does the parent's authority take over?"
This is a tough case. In my house the parental authority never stops even when my kids are in school or in their car. You can't watch them 24 /7 which is why communication is the key. I feel three chances was a lot and how many more chances do you need before you figure out that what you are doing is wrong. Still I feel sorry for Lucas and I can kind of understand MikeII's frustration with missing the current season. this is a lesson for everyone that the big schools will be scared of "character" issues. How ironic that a football coach turned him in. Very surprised they did not try to work with him but maybe they thought the previous two warnings were enough. Good luck with the lawsuit. It is an interesting challenge to a long used law. |

Page 7 at the bottom, #1 - it says NOTHING about being on or off school grounds. That is vague enough to insinuate that you don't do it anywhere. Luke and and one of his parents were required to sign this, so they knew all about the consequences before this happened. End of story. Good luck in college.
