Shouldn't the dad be trying figure out where his son got the smokes from to begin with? I would be more pissed at whoever gave him the chew and the smokes and not the school for making him man up and accept responsibility for his actions.

In all honesty....I feel for you smokers. Even though I don't smoke, it doesn't bother me someone smoking around me. But the bar scene can be real bad, more and more people are eating there and most ventilation stinks. My eyes start to burn, like last night. Maybe they should force better ventilation or something.

Anyway, back to the topic. Here is a sample scenario for you. I used to work at a convenience store, and truckers would come in all the time. Many of them purchased tobacco products. One trucker was buying the chew that comes in pouches because he told me that is what their boss wants them to chew. This is because he does not want them to approach customers with tobacco all over their teeth. These are people who are all well over the age limit for using tobacco products. Let's say a customer complains to the boss about a trucker having tobacco all over his teeth, then another complaint, then a third complaint about the same employee. After the third offense the employee gets suspended without pay, he then sues the employer. Does the employee have a good case?

Could you explain that to me, I guess I did not pay very good attention in my American Government class. I think it is unfair to those who do not smoke and made a good decision for their health not to, to be subjected to the second hand smoke of an inconsiderate smoker. You want to kill yourself thats fine and your decision to live with, but why should the nonsmoker have to live with your poor decsion too

Let's do a quick re-cap....
Lucas and his parents read and signed a contract with the school, so he could participate in sports. Knowing the rules and the penatly for breaking the rules, Lucas proceeded to break the rules 3 times. The rules and penalty for breaking the rules are in black and white and in plain english. It isn't vague at all. I don't see the problem with him not being allowed to wrestle. If you don't like the rules, then don't join extra-curricular activities. Don't sign the contract and then when you get busted for breaking the rules, go and cry foul. You know the rules, so either follow them or pay the price. |

I just read all 15 pages...not word for word. I am not responding to any particular post, although many struck me. I do want to say that our 3 regular "moms" on here are great!
As a teacher, we have a responsibility to report wrong-doings. It is very hard to do because I do trust my students. Personal judgement is not really allowed. If I don't report something and it turns bad or something goes wrong, it is my fault --- I don't care about disciplinary action toward me --- I care about the result for my student(s). Most teachers honestly want what is best for the kids. As a parent, if my son(s) are witnessed doing anything wrong against school code, I want to know about it. I want to have them make it right. If a school official doesn't report, I may not find out. Now pulling both together, I would want a teacher / school official to report anything my son(s) may do illegal, even if off school grounds. If it is illegal or against the rules, it isn't okay for them. Now, I need to see how my "kids" are doing at the Dvorak!! ![]() (somehow you all squeeked 2 more pages in while I was posting - typing is not my strong suit) |
