Joe Williams

I was talking wrestling with a friend and he said there were three Williams brothers. Joe and T.J. and a third. I don't remember there being a third brother. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, did he also wrestle at Iowa?

Steve Williams was the oldest of the brothers, and considered by some to be the best of the three. A few years ago Steve passed away from complications related to asthma I believe.

Stevie was a two time JUCO National champ-five years apart, the last one at Kennedy-King College at age 28, while he was also an assistant coach. Both titles were won with Stevie pinning all he faced and his last one he won the sportsmanship award and most outstanding as well. One of the greatest pinners of all time he could go to a level that many could only dream of.

Stevie was also a great coach and motivator with an energy and motor that let everyone know when he was in the room.

I have included his picture below officating one of my sons matches. Sorry no action shot available of him in action this is all I have.

Steve Williams (NJCAA)
1994 – 1st at Iowa Central 134lbs
Outstanding Wrestler
Most Falls by Champion
* Won every match by fall.
1999 – 1st at Kennedy King 149 lbs
Outstanding Wrestler
Most Falls Champion
Sportsmanship Award Winner
* Won every match by fall.

I remember Steve. He was one of the first guys I saw that could get a takedown anytime he wanted/needed to. He was locked into a wing and one combo during an IKWF regional by one of my teammates and was about to be pinned. The ref stopped it because the move was totally surfed out and caused Steve to scream. (My teammate was a pretty merciless dude). They ended up restarting the match and at some point, Steve came back and riddled off a few takedowns and won that match.

I think he won, what, two IKWF's or one, and at least two H.S. titles.

Man, what an IKWF team that was the first year they won/.....The Williamses, Sandifer, Waller, Ramon and Lamon Terry. I am sure I am forgetting someone. I think Dantzler was on the team as well. The way they won, in upsetting Vittium and Burbank, was devastating. Joe Gilbert was also winning a title this year as well. Wish I had those old brackets.

Isn't there one or two brothers older than Steve that didn't stick with wrestling? I thought there were four or five boys in that family.
