Not to mention all the people that also witnessed my matches, including the kids I coach

I know how good I was back in the day. (just ask, I'll tell you!! LOL) I don't have anything to prove now. I know I am not an Olympian so why try to beat on some 18 yr old. It's like wrestling a girl. If you win you should have! If you lose, it's embarassing!!

I signed up for the open division, to the best of my knowledge none of the kids I wrestled were in high school. If they were they would have been in the junior division. The only embarrassing thing in this thread is you bigvern, I watched you pretend to know what your talking about on these boards for years, but quite frankly you don't know &$@$!

Two no brainers:
Old weight classes (12): 1978 East Leyden; a bunch of SQs, 4 champs: Conrad 126, Krist 132, Farina 138, and Bankson Hwt. Garret was 3rd at 167. During the late '60s and '70s, East Leyden was a dual meet jugernaut, at one point winning 59 in a row. Had there been a Dual Team State tournament back then, Farina's teams would have won about 11 titles. Modern weight classes (14): 2006 Carl Sandburg (the apex of the Sandburg teams that won 3 straight titles) - LOADED. Breezed thru Dual Team state without really wrestling their full line-up. Individual state placers: McAuliffe 2nd (112), Precin 1st (130), Conrad Polz 1st (135), Cusik 1st (140), Pretto 4th (152), Friedl 2nd (160), Rettke 6th (275). This team also had Morrison (103), Schmeski (119), and Clinton Polz (171). They won both Dvorak and The Clash (at the Clash they won every dual by double-digits) Also, note that Montini WAS in the AA tournament that year (when it was just A & AA). Both teams were undefeated and won state by a mile. East Leyden set a record for scoring in the individual tournament and Carl Sandburg ended up ranked 3rd in the nation behind Blair and St Eds.

They also had another wrestler who finished third. And that was back when there were only 13 weight classes, instead of the 14 that now exist. Also not mentioned were the East St. Louis team of 1941 with 4 state champions and another place winner, and the 1963 Waukegan team that had 4 state champions, a 3rd and a 4th. Both of those teams wrestled in an era in which there were only 12 weight classes, making it even more difficult to do as well.

The 2006 Sandburg team, what can I say you haven't covered, what talent and depth! The 1995 Mt. Carmel team was right there and deserve mention. |
