Howe and Rutt Transfer to.........

Andrew Howe and Travis Rutt to Oklahoma

Mark Bader on May 11, 2012, 9:20am

Well the wait is over, we have been wondering what will happen to Andrew Howe after his Olympic redshirt year and now we finally know. It appears that he will finish his career at the University of Oklahoma where he will transfer to from Wisconsin. Following to Oklahoma along with Howe will be 184lb All-American Travis Rutt. I can see why this may have happened, Jared Frayer used to coach at Wisconsin and my guess is that Andrew Howe and Travis Rutt both like and respect him enough to want to follow him to OU, it doesn't hurt that he is an Olympian now too.

One more thing that makes this just a little more interesting is the Tyler Caldwell situation. Caldwell just left Oklahoma for Oklahoma State, and Caldwell actually upset Andrew Howe in the 2011 NCAA semifinals. Now those two wrestlers will be at Oklahoma and Oklahoma State and very well could see each other several times next year. I for one hope they are at the same weight, and from any rumors I have heard Andrew Howe might be at 174lb next year, I hope Caldwell is too. This is huge for Oklahoma and I think we will hear them start to make a little bit more noise this year, the second year for head coach Mark Cody.

Bedlam just got more exciting!

This changes the landscape of the Big 12(4) quite a bit. Now the real question is, what weight are all these guys going to go? I've heard the rumors of How going 174, but he wrestles internationally at 74kg (163) so wouldn't 165 be the better fit? I guess I'm just being selfish but as a fan I would LOVE to see Dake, Taylor, Howe and Caldwell all at 165 next year. Talk about EPIC...

Internationally you only have to make weight occasionally. it might be too tough for him to do it for an entire collegiate season.

Wink Wisconsin

So the question fir Wisconsin is after a horrific season last year waiting on their redshirts to come back, and now looks like they only have one that I know of it, Tyler Graff the only hope at Wisconsin for Barry Davis, Morningstar and the gang? Seems like there have been a lot of changes in Wisconsin starting with D. Pritzlaff.

It has been a pretty tough year for the Badgers losing two assistants and now two quality wrestlers. Howe transferring has been expected for awhile now. Rutt transferring seems to be a bit of a surprise. I hope Wisconsin is able to get things back on track, but you never know. I watched an interview Pritzlaff gave last spring after taking the job at Michigan. He made it pretty clear that the main reason for leaving was that Michigan was making a commitment to developing Michigan wrestling into a national powerhouse and also into a top freestyle training program. Kind of made me wonder, are the problems that UW is having is more with the athletic department and administration.
