I'm pretty sure that you are the one joking. There is a LARGE difference between the styles especially when you get to the higher levels.

So, I am assuming that you NEVER wrestled both? Why doesn't the USA dominate in freestyle if it is so close to folk? Possibly one of the most unintelligent post I have ever seen, including Greenlantern's!

You're killing me SMALLS!

Oh I don't know about this. It is very different. The dirt road (pun intended) is littered with folkstylers that can't freestyle and vice versa...

whether you think free is way different or not, Reel would have dominated in any style. He didn't give up a point and teched or pinned every period he was in. I don't think their is any doubt he would have dominated in any style yesterday.

I don't think Reel has been given his just due over the last couple of years. He has three state folkstyle titles and probably missed another by a single point. His freestyle and greco titles are numerous as well. Yet when the discussion of the best at his weight class comes up someone always seems to eke him out. My guess it is because he is AA and wrestles out of a small town in Central Illinois.

I live about 10 miles away (which is next door down here) and have been fortunate to see him wrestle quite a bit. In my opinion he is the best wrestler ever to come out of Central Illinois. Any discussion of who is the best at his weight class in this state should always begin with him. When it comes to wrestling he is a champ among champs. I wish him the best of luck in the future and hope he holds it together at Minnesota.

Learning/getting used to staying out of positions that they were relatively safe in folkstyle but leave them vulnerable to be scored on in freestyle is tough for many wrestlers. A kid can score a takedown after a tough scramble in a folkstyle match that would have resulted in him being teched in freestlye before he finished.

Not much different? Just look at the names of folkstyle champs/placers that didn't fare as well at freestyle state as the kids you didn't hear about all season. The talent gap didn't close that much in a couple months. Ask David Taylor and Ed Ruth if they think there is much difference. I think its a lot more different than some realize.
The perfect post to explain why I greatly prefer folkstyle regardless of what the rest of the world thinks.

I also had the pleasure of watching Hill wrestle last week. Hill is big, strong and extremely fast with great hip strength. Wow! He is exciting to watch. He absolutely dominated the competition. I thought Farai Sewara would challenge Hill but it was evident Hill was on a different level. I was told Hill has also beat Holler, Chancey and Engelkes. I was looking forward to watching him at FS State but he wasn't there.

wrestling is wrestling..

wrestling is wrestling.. regardless of style.. freestyle is more about wrestling on your feet anyways, which is very similar to folkstyle. I guess thats why jordan burroughs isn't very good at freestyle, since he was such a dominate folkstyle wrestler in college?
