Class 1A photos from the state individual meet

A few photos from new galleries posted today on the PhotoNews website from individual state meet Feb 16-17. Click on any photo to see more photos from the highlighted matches below and check out Illinois Champion (see sample pages below, too).



First round wrestling action between Coal City's Cody Minnick and Erie-Prophetstown's Brandon McCullough at the Illinois High School Association's state individual wrestling tournament. Minnick won the Class 1A bout by major decision, 9-1.




Preliminary round wrestling action between Morrison's Mark McDonnell and Vandalia's Seth Purcell at the Illinois High School Association's state individual wrestling tournament. McDonnell, who went on to win the 145-pound title, defeated Purcell by major decision, 12-2.




Wrestling action between Manteno's Christian Franc and Auburn's Dustin Dambacher at the Illinois High School Association's state individual wrestling tournament. Franc won the Class 1A 120-pound bout by decision, 7-6, to advance to day two of competition.

Class 1A preliminary round wrestling action between St. Joseph-Ogden's Austin Hedrick and Stillman Valley's Talon Paul at the Illinois High School Association's state individual wrestling tournament. Paul won the match by major decision, 14-5.




Wrestling action between Peotone's Tyler Nagle and Warsaw's Maverick McCarty at the Illinois High School Association's state individual wrestling tournament. McCarty won by decision, 5-3.

Eight new Class 1A galleries this morning in addition to a half dozen or so 3A photo galleries. Click on any photo to see today's updates.

Class 1A 285-pound wrestling action between Pittsfield's Coltyn Pease and Bismarck-Henning's Morgan Supergan. Pease, who went on to finish in second place, pinned Supergan at 5:02 in their semifinal match.




Wrestling action between St. Joseph-Ogden's Austin Upton and Reed-Custer's Billy Chancey in their 160-pound quarterfinal round bout. Chancey, who went on to win the division's title, defeated Upton by major decision, 13-4.

Quarterfinal wrestling action between St. Joseph-Ogden's Kenny Lindsey and Morrison's Matt McDonnell in their 195-pound bout McDonnell, who went on take first place in the weight class, defeated Lindsey, 5-3. Lindsey came back to place fourth overall.



Mercer County's Zach Nelson applies a head lever on LeRoy's Josh Johnson during their Class 1A 152-pound semifinal match. Nelson, a junior and who went on to place second this year, won the bout, 5-3.

Another round of new Class 1A galleries were added this morning. Here are more samples from latest group of photos to be uploaded. Click on any photo to view this and more photo coverage from this year's state meet.



Mercer County's Zach Nelson and Clifton Central's Aaron Napoleon wrestle in their Class 1A 152-pound championship bracket quarterfinal match. Nelson, who went on to a second place finish this year, defeated Napoleon with a three-minute tech fall, 19-4.



Pittsfield's Coltyn Pease and Rockford Lutheran's Chris Gustafson-Nolan wrestle in their Class 1A 285-pound championship match. Pease, who went on to finish his senior year with a second place state finish, defeated Gustafson-Nolan with a 9-0 major decision.



Monticello's Luke Dunn shoot in on Newman Catholic's Brian Bahrs wrestle in their Class 1A 152-pound match. Bahrs won the bout 8-4 on this way to the weight class title.



Bismarck-Henning's Morgan Supergan and Riverdale's Mitchell Keppy wrestle in their Class 1A 285-pound bout. Supergan won the battle with a 7-5 decision. However, Keppy avenged his loss by finishing in fourth place and Supergan in sixth after three days of wrestling at this year's meet.



Manteno's Christian Franc looks for the right time to shoot in on Newman Catholic's Garrett Webb in their Class 1A quarterfinal match. Webb won the bout with a 16-1 technical fall at 5:27 and went on to finish in second place at this year's IHSA individual state wrestling meet.

285-pound wrestling action between Riverdale's Mitch Keppy and Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley's Josh Wallick during their Class 1A 3rd place match at the Illinois High School Association Individual Wrestling Meet. Wallick, a sophomore, stuck Keppy at 4:34 to win the bout.



Shelbyville's Alex Jones and Lena-Winslow's Austin McPeek tangle during their 132-pound 3rd place match. McPeek won the bout with an 8-4 victory over Jones.



Mercer County's Derrick Morford struggles to keep Walther Lutheran's Maurice Wilson from getting arm control in their 138-pound medal round bout. Wilson blanked Morford in a 7-0 victory to place 5th.



LeRoy's Josh Johnson hangs on while Monmouth-Rossville's Gage Hedges tries to shake him off his back during their 152-pound championship round match. Hedges went on to win 6-4 to place 5th.



Hoopeston-Area wrestler Robbie Irvin attempts to escape a hold by Plano's Wes Brown during their Class 1A 160-pound championship round match. Brown, who went on to finish in third place, defeated Irvin 5-3 in overtime of their quarterfinal wrestleback bout. See more match photos by click on the picture or athlete's names.



Both, with bloody noses, Camp Point Central's Garrett Kestner and Vandalia's Levi Ulmer wrestle for fifth-place in their 195-pound match. Ulmer won the bout 11-4 over Kestner.
