No doubt that Marmion was a great team that year and had an outstanding Ironman tourney. IMO Marmion was a better tourney team than Montini that year and had 5 state champs however Montini did beat them head to head and sqeaked out the regional tourney win when it mattered most. With that being said I believe that Montini rose to the occasion while Marmion seem to peak a little early that year. Marmion and Montini both helped Illinois wrestling raise the bar and it showed in the freestyle and greco season.

Marmion was good but a one year wonder, Montini reloads year in and year out. As I have said before a class all their own. The bar is set by Montini for all to try and reach, I don't see anyone catching them anytime soon.

I would say Sandburg has enough power next year to beat Montini... and if they can't do it... no one in Illinois can. Incoming freshman to either team may be the ultimate factor, for the next two years to come.

This is starting to get really old. Live in the past much? You are only making Montini look bad with these posts. Go check the Ramos threads on the college board about winning and losing with class.

Good post. Teams like Sandburg, Glenbard North, Oak Park, and Marist have proven track records, consistent coaching staffs, and even though they have suffered little ups and downs, they have maintained a solid level for a period of time. The point is that giving these teams respect and speculating as to whether they could beat Montini, doesn't bother true Montini fans, because these programs have earned their stripes.

Let dont Marist in that category yet. They are young and upcoming. They will be very good in the years to come. And i hope they are. But they dont have the same proven track record as the others.

I was referring to their overall record. Mark Gervais did a good job there, as I believe they won 2? State Titles?

They won a state title in 1987. Im talking more current. What the ddi in the 80's has no effect on them now.
