Suggestions for Change in the IESA

In preparation for the upcoming season. What changes would you like to see made in IESA?

Suggestions for the governing body? Coaches? Wrestlers?

Just starting a thread.

I would like to see more "JV" tournaments to give more wrestlers a chance to compete. OR come up with other ways to get more matches in for the backup boys.

club

The biggest thing that I see that needs to be changed is their rule that kids cannot attend a club during the season. This rule needs to be changed to mimic the high school rule that states no more than 2 wrestlers per school can attend an individual practice facility during the season. In small schools like ours there are not always practice partners, etc. that are at the same level or the same weight. This not only affects the kids during their junior high time, but puts them at a disadvantage in high school compared to the IKWF kids.

Let everybody that wants to participate in Regionals, not just 2 per weight class per school. Why limit it to two? Why not 1 - or 3? Seems totally arbitrary and all it does is take away kids opportunities to participate.

Not if you're having trouble making ends meet or have lost your job.
Not if your IKWF team only runs as a feeder team for the Middle School Team.
Not if your parents work late and can't get you to practice on time.
Not if you don't like getting the crap kicked out of you by kids who have been doing this for 7 years and you're an 8th grade beginner.

Should I go on?

PK, I have to disagree with this as well. What's the point of all the kids/starters and second stringers working so hard throughout the season if you're going to let anybody participate in Regionals when that in reality is "play-off time"? Plus, there's always the possibility of a contender getting caught by somebody who shouldn't be there. Then, you'd have all the schools that can field 80 or 90 kids entering all of them and of course they'd probably be the ones who squeaked thru Regionals with the most kids. Let's make the seeding meeting even longer - eh??? LOL! . And Regionals would go 'til 10 pm!!!! If you want it to be an open, that's for IKWF Bantams and Midgets (minors???).

If you're having trouble - financially then if you talk to most clubs I'm sure most will find a way for your kid to participate. At the very least, most would allow you to practice and that's 90%+ of the battle.

Next, start your own IKWF team for the younguns if you don't like the current scenario - lol!

Next, organize a car pool

Next, starting late in the ballgame certainly doesn't help, but it also isn't an absolute. Lots of factors involved here. I know one kid that started in 8th grade with a great club and ended up taking 2nd at Regionals and almost squeaked through Sectionals to State. If it weren't for a couple of State Placers in his Sectional, he would have gone to State as a first year senior. So, again it's not unheard of!

But, I digress.

I have to totally agree with PBS, having a Dual Team State Championship is without question the biggest change in my mind that is needed. Otherwise, if it ain't broke, don't fix it...

It is broke!

If your going to follow IHSA rules follow them all, all the way down to a 2day weigh in at state with a weight allowance. Kids with the dedication to attend a second practice should not get punished. I would like to see that changed

Adjust it by weight, allow 3 at the more average weights...85-110 or something...
