Fallico Steps Down at Maine South
By SETH SCHWARTZIllinois Matmen Craig Fallico has resigned as wrestling coach at Maine South High School. “The atmosphere at Maine South has changed and I don’t fit in anymore,” said Fallico. “I will continue to contribute to our great sport as an official.” Fallico, who began coaching at Marist in 1981, came to Maine South in 1987 with Dennis McCann as an assistant and became head coach in 1998. During Fallico’s tenure, the Hawks won the conference in 1994, 99, 2000-03 and 2007-2010. They had 30 state qualifiers and seven placers and a record of 270 wins and 90 loses. Fallico will be inducted into the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Hall of Fame.

Sad day for our sport. Coach Fallico is both a mentor and a friend. I'll miss coaching against him. |

Very sad day. I've known Coach Fallico since my son started wrestling, and he was one of his biggest supporters and biggest fans. He was a great help to my son.
Coach, we will miss you, but we'll see you on the Mat as you officiate. |

Sad thing. Class act. Always dressed to respect the sport. When he said he didn't fit in I am guessing, and this is ONLY a guess, that he got tired of getting kids told they have to focus on football year round. Bet he will make a great ref!!!!

What a shame. Fallico is one of those guys that pretty much gives his whole year to the sport.

He had great energy, always a smile, and knew what were the right priorities in life. He will be missed as a coach, but I am glad he will continue on a referee.

It makes me sad to hear that Coach Fallico feels he doesn't fit in anymore. I can't imagine that anyone we are pushing the Coach Fallicos of the world out for, is better. He was one of the first people we made an acquaintance of when my boys were small and he was a wonderful ambassador to help us navigate as we learned the sport. I am glad to hear he's staying on as a ref. We will look for him there.

Very sad
He was a great coach, and will be missed in the wrestling community! Let's not forget about another coach who stepped down as well. Coach Jerry Ruffino, 20 year coach for the Fenwick Friars.
