novice/senior finals?

Watching the final matches on the internet, I wish I could have been there. Some of the finals shouldnt have been the final match from what I saw. I saw some lop sided brackets with state champs getting knocked out. Is the brackets set up like this on purpose? ( a tough side and a weak side) One of my sons team friends was in the 115 novice and got knocked out.(he has beat alot of the kids on the otherside). Then the finals match(no offence to the kids). I looked like the one kid just totally dominated the match....Can the brackets be more balanced some how?

this has been covered multiple times in the past few weeks. Sorry they got a bad draw but that's the way it goes. there are dozens of kids in the same boat from sectionals & state that wish that it was done a different way, it is what it is. It's the best way to make it happen

This has been well covered every year and in multiple threads this year. The brackets are determined using a schematic and each sectionals place in that schematic is determined by a random draw well before state participants are determined. So to answer your 1st question, no the the brackets are not set up on purpose to have a tough side and a weak side. And as for your 2nd question, yes there are ways to make them more balanced, some of which will be presented to the IKWF board this off season.

The 115 novice bracket was not as nearly lopsided as many other brackets this year and in years past. Jessen dominated everyone along his way to the title, not just in the finals.

I have given Big Time Coach a lot of razzing for his promotion of his kid on this website, but after watching the kid this season and during the state series I have to say that Dylan Conway is easily one of the top novice 115lbs IKWF kids after Jessen and would probably have been in the finals no matter who was on his side of the bracket other than Jessen.

Papa Bear thank you for the kind words towards Dylan and as you know I have alway ranked Jack Jessen no. 1. All Dylan can do is try and get stronger and faster however jessen is in a class all by himself. This bracket worked out the way a bracket should Rutherford (MVN) third. Price(LC) Fifth Gulima(Force)7 th. All the top kids won their place matches. At the end of the day it was an exciting weekend in Rockford with a lot of upsets. My top five rankings are above as per the finish.

It's life

Getting on the wrong side of the bracket, even being in the wrong quarter sucks! My kid just cant catch a break when it comes to bracketing. This year he seemed to be on the right side of bracket but not in the right quarter. Oh well, that's life, it sucks, welcome to the real world where even though you do everything right and work hard sometimes you will come up short and not neccessarily because of what you yourself does. I don't believe there a way to make it completely fair for everyone. For example; if you start getting people involved in ranking wrestlers and placing them in the brackets accordingly it will open a big can of worms. Hey a bad bracket place for a guy happens in High School too.

Papa Bear Slim, Thank you for sticking up for Dylan!!! He is a great kid and a tough wrestler. Very humble kid, he never bragged on himself or would never put any other wrestler down. Not sure who big"er"time coach is but Dylan worked his butt off. Give him credit, don't take what he accomplished away from him that's b.s!!!

Sorry, I dont know Conway,
Sorry if you get offended as his/her parent. I was just using that match as an example. There were alot more of them that was dominated by one wrestler.

P.S. Don't get your panties in a bunch over someone elses opinion......

I was not going to respond directly Joe but this changes everything. U picked this bracket because Dylan left your club. You have offended an entire bracket of youth wrestlers. Jack Jessen won because he is the best and in a class all by himself. Dylan is no. 2 for a reason. Top bracket Beat price to win regionals(6-1) Beat Gulima by 2nd period pin to win Sectionals Beat Pence in only match two years ago. Dylan lost to two novice wrestlers this year Jessen and Gulima which he avenged as per above. Dylan 4th at LC Elite, 4 - 4 at Joe Tholl and MIdwest Classic against Seniors. Dylan was 15-0 as a Senior in open tournaments. With all this said Dylan did not leave any tourneys due to a made up injury or throw up after matches due to stress. Here are the top Novice rankings .1.Jessen 2.Conway 3.Rutherford 4.Price 5.Gulima 6.Guerrero 7.J Carter 8. J.Torres

FYI when u pick a moniker such as this it is a direct result of a conflict with me.
