Lionel "Lonnie" Keys was a national runner-up at 158 pounds for Triton College in 1982. He then went on to wrestle for Chicago State University in the NAIA and became an All-American when he placed third at 158 pounds in 1984.
He mentioned that he beat Darryl Gholar (Dunbar) for the state title in 1980. Gholar went on to become a three-time NCAA qualifier for Minnesota, a three-time US Greco-Champion and 1988 Olympic alternate. He went on to have a pretty good MMA career, too. However, his most famous feat may have come when he was a runner-up on the original American Gladiators and took down "Nitro" at will.
