2 Storied Programs to Clash Tonight!
Granite City travels North to Harvard for Dual
![]() Illinois Matmen The team with the most wins in the Nation and in the State of Illinois, Granite City will travel 314 miles north tonight to take on the team that sits right behind them in the State in most wins, Harvard. These two teams have deep tradition running through them and will lay it all on the mat tonight at 5pm. Granite City comes in with a 22-1 record and ranked 19th in 3A with Harvard coming in with a 23-1 record and ranked 3rd in Class 1A. Both teams are having a stellar season with individual stand-outs that will make this an epic battle. ****** Granite City started their wrestling program in 1933 and have had an impressive 1383 wins, 185 losses and 10 ties up to this point. The most of any school in the nation (according to NFHS). Harvard, who started their program 26yrs after the Warriors have a impressive record of their own with 951 wins, 134 losses and 3 ties which puts them 2nd in the State of Illinois behind Granite City. Coach Allen Kirgan has announced this as his final season, his 13th guiding the Warriors. He has compiled a record of 355-57 in those 13 years. His counterpart tonight, Tim Haak has a record of 588-134-3 in his 25th season leading the Hornets. That record is enough to sit in 4th place all time in IHSA history and 2nd for all time at the same school. Granite City Warriors (22-1) vs. Harvard Hornets (23-1) 5pm at Harvard High School. About 6 years behind the times!
Actually, I think that the last time the state updated that record was about 2005. Granite has more than 1500 wins in their history!
By the way, what was the result of this match? It would be nice to hear some news about things. |
