Mattoon wrestlers beat Charleston, Eisenhower



MATTOON -- Mattoon’s wrestling team defeated Charleston 56-23 and Decatur Eisenhower 60-16 Tuesday night.

Six Mattoon duals ended in pins against Charleston with Austin Daniels (103), Carson Hayes (112), Creed Janes (130), Treighton Gullion (135), Treye Williams (189) and Ryan Paige (heavyweight) all winning by fall for the Green Wave. Janes recorded the fastest in 35 seconds.

Charleston’s wins came from veteran wrestlers. Justin Kater (119), Aaron Laursen (140) and Zach Williams (145) were the most dominant, recording falls. Phillip Chouinard had four near falls in the first period before winning by technical fall.

The most competitive match between Charleston and Mattoon was at 215 pounds, where David Haller managed an escape from Drake in the third period before Drake held on for a 4-2 win.
Posting additional wins for Mattoon against Decatur Eisenhower were Janes, Gullion and Williams. Zach Myers (152) was a two time winner with a win by technical fall against Charleston’s Tristan Ferry and J. Mabon of Eisenhower. Mattoon’s Jimmy Johnson (112), Korey Culp (125), Clayton Dutton (140), Steven Forer (145) won by fall and Todd Reardon won by decision against Eisenhower.
