He knew the rules, he broke them repeatedly knowing what the punishment would be, end of discussion.

It amazes me year in and year out that parents try to fight this battle. Get control of your kids so the school doesn't have to! The rules are the rules, and it is not a right to be in extra-curriculars.

but this happenned of campus in his car and the asst coach saw it. Pretty sketchy to me. I would probably fight if I was Mr Roth

So if he gets a DUI off campus or robery off campus it would be the same. He broke the rules and technically the law also, so why wouldn't it count.

That's not the issue here, though. If his dad wants to spend the time and money to challenge the legality of the policy, more power to him. I have a feeling he's going to wish he hadn't when it's all said and done. |

I don't know what to say. Being a student-athlete and all, and how some situations have been handled at my school, I think this is taking it pretty far. Luke was caught with tobacco products 3 times, and he's been banned from wrestling. I mean really, come on...They are really treating this like he was doing something even worse.
I mean, really...we had a kid at our school spend 17 days in jail, and he had to sit out a couple games, and then he was able to play football again. I'd let the kid wrestle, but put him under some sort of supervision and if he messes up he's off. It sure would make 160-171 that much more interesting anyways. |

Cubs84...
So what you're saying is it's okay to use tobacco (for the third time) as long as you're not on campus? Pretty lame argument. He was caught three times, at what point does the kid not get it? Schools that have a code of conduct, build into them some provisions for being lenient and helping the kid but at some point the kid has to grow up. The "death penalty" comes when the kid continues his path of poor decision making. |

Is there a law about underage smoking? I don't think so. He didn't break any laws.
