There is also an IWCOA Academic Wrestler of the Year in A, AA and AAA. So those wrestlers with good grades should be sure to apply.

Congrats to the Illinois Matmen news team on your nominations. I know where to go when I need to know what's happening! Also I have to give a shout out to my favorite Assistant Coach of the Year nominee Paul Collins. He has been a coach, mentor and friend to all three of my sons and he is wonderful.

Administrator of the Year AA: Tom DuBois - Richmond Burton, has helped mold Richmond-Burton Wrestling into becoming a powerhouse in the state of Illinois, along with the great athletes and champions that are made up in the wrestling room.

Newsman of the Year: Mike Vest - Illinois Matmen - has done a superior job over the years providing fair coverage for all of the wrestling communities in the state of Illinois. The site is much appreciated, and is also highly regarded by fans of the IKWF, IHSA, and NCAA.

Official of the Year: Ray Epperson - Yorkville, has been an official in the state of Illinois since I can remember. I remember competing in IKWF events some 20 years ago, and he was officiating then. After all of these years he is still regarded as one of the most respected referees in the IKWF/IHSA.

Assistant Coach of the Year AAA: Mike Polz - Carl Sandburg, before Montini there was Sandburg. 4 team titles, and 1 runner up since 2005. He's helped guide a non-recruiting high school to years of glory, in a modern IHSA dominated by Private schools.

Head Coach of the Year AA: Wilbur Borrero - Antioch, enjoyed a resurgence of a program that has been competitively building over the years. Antioch qualified, and were able to place 4th, despite having not competed in the team tournament in 2011.

Wrestler of the Year AA: Jack Dechow - Richmond-Burton, After finishing runner-up at 160AA to Dylan Reel (Washington) 3-2 in 2010, and runner-up at 171AA to AJ Messenger (Yorkville) 6-5 in 2011, he finally got over the hump winning a state title at the 182AA weight class. During the State tournament Dechow recorded a tech-fall, and two pin falls, including one that clinched the state title in the closing seconds of the first period against Stephon Rudicil (Bloomington). The pin fall capped off an undefeated 33-0 season. This upcoming fall he will be wrestling at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.

Thanks OT for the nod!

Given all the work he has done with Infinity, video coverage, DVD production (particularly "The Last Maverick"), I truly believe that JD deserves it.

Although I am one of the finalist for Newsman of the Year, I continue to be impressed with JD Oliva's work. Should he win it would be well deserved, especially since I personally know that he operates on a penny and a nickel insted of a quarter and / or a dollar. The work he turns out on shoestring budgets is amazing. I am attending the banquet but am fully prepared to stand up applaud for JD should he win.

Enjoyable event. Nice turnout. Really enjoyed the company. Congratulations to Flashy and all the IM nominees.
Funny to hear...
When the All-Staters were introduced it was great to learn that most of the CS squad enjoy a rousing game of Hide and Seek and GBN seem to often play Tag as a pastime. The Emcee Coach B was able to read that without skipping a beat.
