» Fighting Illini Athletes Shoot Commercials for BTN
Seven University of Illinois student-athletes were the focus of a series of commercials shot Tuesday at the Bielfeldt Athletic Administration Building. The commercials will appear on the Big Ten Network in the coming year as part of the "Faces of the Big Ten" campaign.

» Durlacher, Lackey Earn Seeds at U.S. Olympic Team Trials
A pair of former Fighting Illini wrestlers have earned pre-seeds for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, with Lindsey Durlacher (55 kg/121 lbs.) grabbing the No. 2 seed in the Greco-Roman competition and Matt Lackey (74 kg/163 lbs) taking the No. 4 seed in freestyle. The Greco/Roman trials get underway on Friday, June 13, and the freestyle begins on Saturday, June 14.

» Johnson, 1980 Olympic Team to be Honored at Olympic Trials
Illinois head coach Mark Johnson and his teammates from the 1980 United States Olympic wrestling team will be honored at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials in Las Vegas, June 13-15. That year, the U.S. team boycotted the Olympics, meaning that those athletes sacrificed their dreams of competing on the world's biggest stage.

» Illini Celebrate Season at Annual Banquet
Two-time All-American Mike Poeta was named the 2007-08 Most Valuable Wrestler at the team's postseason banquet held Monday at Alexander's Steakhouse. Poeta also took home one of the awards for most falls on the team as he tied with junior John Wise and freshman Grant Paswall. In addition, Wise was named the team's Most Improved Wrestler and sophomore Jimmy Kennedy was recognized as the Most Dedicated Wrestler.

» Illini Finish 13th Nationally in Attendance
The Fighting Illini wrestling team finished 13th in the nation in average attendance for the 2007-08 season with a mark of 1,169 over four home duals. It is the fourth-straight year that Illinois has been ranked in the top 20 nationally and the third time in the last four that the Orange and Blue have had an average attendance in the top 15.

» Poeta Takes Second at NCAA Championships
Two-time All-American junior No. 2 seed Mike Poeta took second at the NCAA Championships, dropping a tight 5-4 bout to Cornell's No. 8 seed Jordan Leen in the 157-pound title match. Poeta becomes Illinois' highest national placer since Kyle Ott finished second at 125 pounds in 2005.

No. 2 seed Jimmy Kennedy finished fourth at the NCAA Championships, defeating eighth-seeded Mack Reiter (Minnesota) but dropping his third-place bout to Michigan State's top-seeded Franklin Gomez. It is Kennedy's first All-America honor and highest finish, ending his sophomore campaign with a 32-7 record.

Northwestern's Jake Herbert posted a 2-1 record to capture the bronze medal at the World University Games held in Thessoloniki, Greece. It is Herbert's second bronze medal in as many attempts. The Wildcat took third place at the 2006 edition of the event.
