My name is Lee Munster and I am a freshman at Grant Community High School, I have been wrestling since I was seven years old. I have also been training in Judo since before I turned four years old. So far I have had successful careers in both Judo and wrestling. In Judo I have won numerous national and international tournaments and received many outstanding competitor awards. This year I have achieved my greatest wrestling accomplishment by winning the high school AA State Championship at 119 pounds.
In both sports I have traveled all over the county and experienced many things, I have trained to try to be the best, and I have thought about my future in both sports. These two sports, in a way, help the other. Judo, which many of you probably think is all kicking and punches, is actually not, it is a sport of throws, choke outs, and also submissions. Though, now as I am getting older and the competition is getting tougher, it is harder to dedicate myself to both sports and have success in both of them also. Last summer I had qualified for Fargo and attended the training camp but due to an injury I was barely able to drill during the camp and therefore was unable to go to Fargo and did not compete. While the injury prevented me from competing and practicing wrestling or judo it did allow me to weight lift and get stronger so that I could prepare for my freshman year of high school wrestling.
After having a very successful freshman year, as I had so hoped to have, I know that puts a lot of pressure on me to continue to succeed in the years to come. I have already started to train twice as hard as I did last year for the upcoming season hoping that this will allow me to have a good summer for freestyle and in the winter for folkstyle. I took a couple of weeks off right after state to let myself enjoy all the pleasures in life, which to me is mostly food and I already had more than my fair share of it after season; I am actually extremely excited to start the freestyle wrestling season, and to start weight lifting again.
Since this is my first blog entry, if any of you have questions or want to know more about any topic, please ask. I look forward to writing again soon.
